Simple Canning with Diane Vatcher

Chef/artist Diane will be presenting the basics of canning food safely for your fall harvest. To quote Diane: " Food is my way of life and preserving our local harvest is a great way to keep summer on your kitchen shelf." We couldn't agree more.

Diane will show how easy it is to start canning at home by giving you basic steps to food safety and source materials to further your experiences in the kitchen.

During the demonstration, we will cover:

Why we can food 

Preventing food born illnesses using safe canning methods 

Basic terminology of canning 

Jar sealing, head space, hot packing, selecting processing times, 

Sterilization of canning jars, maintaining color and flavor in canned      

   foods, Identifying and handling spoiled canned foods

Testing jar seals and of course proper storage

You will see actual canning in this demonstration and will take home written material and a resource list.  

$15, pre registration recommended ( 13 and up)
