so, as we have discussed over the years, there s a lot of misinformation out there! Even the lovely and wonderful Farmers Almanac’s own online ‘frost date by zip code’ app turns up a mid April date for my zone that simply isn’t correct.
We suggest checking your zip against sites like the USDA or the National Gardening Association. But another, simple, local-knowledge way to get the skinny on when things are safe is to check out the average date of local plant sales-most places simply are not putting plants out until it is safe!
And remember, soil workability and warmth is a factor too! Micro-climates exit -and your garden may well have its own. As is always true with gardening and growing… observation, experience and keeping notes will always be the best way to be your best green-thumb self!
