HOW TO TRAP A SWARM (and live to tell about it) with Ray LaFleur

  • cluck 684 Natick Avenue Cranston, RI, 02921 United States (map)

Ray from Lafleur’s Wild Flower Honey will share his secrets to swarm capture in this FREE, family-friendly workshop. You'll learn about swarms (and why they are worth catching), how to set yourself up for success catching them and (drumroll) you'll help locate swarm boxes on our home farm, Hurricane Hill. Last year, Ray's own swarm boxes (available for sale at cluck! and on the day of the workshop) caught ELEVEN swarms. Come ready to take a walk.

About your teacher: Ray retired as a carpenter and became a bee keeper in 2014. He started with one hive and has grown to seven. Ray considers himself lucky to have found a mentor in an 84 year old gentleman who has kept bees for 50 years. As is often the case, this bee-relationship has been filled with a wealth of information and wisdom but most of all, with friendship.  Today, LaFleur Apiary is selling honey, wax and swarm boxes at local farmers markets. Ray  is passionate to share with you all he has learned on his journey of keeping bees. Ray's top four?  1. Mentors matter  2. Catch swarms 3. Read all you can about bee keeping 4. take classes and ask questions.
